Animals that are found in the City of Roanoke, Counties of Botetourt and Roanoke, and the Town of Vinton can be brought to the Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection (RCACP) for their stray holds. We are the only open intake municipal shelter in the Roanoke Valley that accepts stray companion animals.
Keeping a Found Pet at Your Home
Members of the public may keep a found animal at their home for the stray hold if they prefer. A Found Animals Form will need to be completed and kept on file for 30 days at RCACP. If the owner of the animal is found, the shelter staff will contact you to release the animal to the rightful owner.
